Often an overlooked aspect of the suspension system, top mounts play a key role in the ongoing health of a commercial vehicle, thanks to them connecting the coil spring/damper strut assembly to the vehicle’s chassis.

If you operate your own commercial goods business, then being aware of the health of your vehicle(s) suspension system is an important factor in the success of your business. As leading purveyors in the sale of LDV Maxus V80 top mount and bearings, (only £88!), we regularly serve clients who experience many issues with their suspension. This is why here, we have compiled the main suspension issues to look out for with commercial vehicles.

So read on to learn more!

Issues To Look Out For Concerning A Suspension Top Mount

Noisy Strut Mount

Is there a clanking noise when you put your car in reverse? It's most likely because one or more of the mounts have worn down and no longer provide adequate protection against interference from objects hitting it while driving.

Bad Vibrations

If you feel like your teeth are chattering when driving, then there may be problems with the suspension. Check your LDV Maxus V80 top mount and bearings to see if anything is loose on top of the mount and make adjustments where necessary-it should go without saying but this will hopefully fix any issues!

Steering Problems

If steering your vehicle feels too stiff, loose or there’s a noise, then there’s an issue to be corrected – it’s likely an issue with your suspension. While steering may seem unrelated, it is in fact, linked to the suspension system.

Alignment Problems

If you feel like your vehicle is pulling to one side, do a quick test by driving down a long street at a less-busy time. Driving as normal, take your hands off the steering wheel. If the vehicle drives straight, then the tyres are correctly aligned. However, if there is something wrong with the suspension system (including the strut mount), the vehicle will likely pull towards the side that is working correctly.

Worn Tyres

Worn-out tyres aren’t just dangerous because of the lack of grip they’ll have on the road – often, it may also mean your suspension is failing too. When your vehicle’s shocks and struts are worn out, it was bounce, causing a reduction in road holding force and thus, wearing out tyres. Make sure to constantly inspect your tyres for any signs they're struggling; uneven treadwear can be an indication something has gone wrong with one strut mount.

Excessive Mount Movement

Check the positioning of your LDV Maxus V80 top mount and bearings under the bonnet before pressing down on the car to see if the strut moves excessively. While it’s normal to have a slight move, any big shift is a sure-fire sign that your top mount strut needs replacing.

Damage To Other Parts

The mount is an important component of your vehicle that keeps it secure. If you notice any loose parts or if the strut itself moves around too much (see above), this could lead to unnecessary damage to other components.

Damaged Rubber

Have a look at the rubber inside your mount and you should be able to do this without unscrewing it. If some cracks or pieces seem too brittle, then we recommend getting a replacement.
