What Is A BMW?
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, or as it’s commonly known as,
BMW; is a German
multinational company that produces automobiles and motorcycles. The BMW
company owns a variety of different automotive and motorcycle brands,
including BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, and BMW Motored. In fact, in 2015 they
were the 12
th largest producer of motor vehicles.
However, the company didn’t always produce automobiles, in 1916 when it was
founded, it was an aircraft engine manufacturing company, which it did
until 1918, then started manufacturing them again from 1933-1945. During
the second world war the company concentrated mainly on aircraft engine
production with motorcycles as a side line; automobile production was
stopped during this period. However after the war, the company’s factories
in West Germany were banned from producing motor vehicles and aircraft and
as such it survived by switching production to pots, pans, and bicycles.
In 1948 the company was able to start producing motorcycles again and a few
years later in ’52 they were able to produce cars, starting with the BMW
501 luxury saloon. In current times its headquarters is still located in
Germany; however it produces vehicles in a diverse selection of different
countries including Germany, but also Brazil, China, India, South Africa,
the UK, the USA, and Mexico.
What Types Of Spare BMW Parts Are Available?
-
Engine Parts
There are numerous different components which come under the category
of engine parts. For example, there’s the combustion chamber in which
fuel, air, pressure, and electricity create a small controlled
explosion that moves the pistons up and down. The motion of the pistons
creates power to move the vehicle.
Another essential engine component is the engine block, which is the
foundation of the engine. Large tubes called cylinders are cast into
this integrated structure, which provides the engine’s pistons with the
space to slide up and down.
There are many different symptoms that there might be an issue with
your vehicle’s engine, including but not limited to strange knocking
noises originating under you vehicle’s bonnet, strong smells of engine
or exhaust fumes (emissions
should never be odorous
and olfactible whilst inside the vehicle), or visible smoke leaving the
exhaust. If it is black the engine is burning too much fuel, if it is
dark blue your engine is burning oil, which means that oil is leaking
into the engine combustion chamber.
-
Fuel Pumps
If your fuel pump is damaged, it could cause an engine misfire which
could lead to issues such as engine overheating and pre-igniting the
fuel whilst driving. This is because it is responsible for pumping fuel
into the engine.
As such, the fuel pump is a very important part of the vehicle and it
is essential that your vehicle’s fuel pump is well maintained and in
good condition as a damaged fuel pump could have very severe
consequences.
-
Heating Parts
At first glance the importance of your vehicle’s heating parts may not
be apparent. However, they are critical to keep your engine in good
condition. Coolant is used to reduce the temperature, and when the
coolant heats up, it expands. To account for this expanse, expansion
tanks are included in the heating system. However, if there is damage
to the tank, coolant could flow out of the engine and pour out onto the
street.
-
Starter Motors
This component is used to initiate the internal-combustion engine, so
that it can continue to operate under its own power. When you turn the
key in your vehicle’s ignition, you engage the starter motor which
pulls air into your vehicle’s engine, allowing it to start.
-
EGR Valves
EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation and the function of this valve
is to recirculate small amounts of exhaust back into the combustion
chambers in order to decrease the overall temperature of the combustion
process, thus reducing the formation of nitrogen oxide which produces
smog. As such, this valve is a very important component for your
vehicle, so it’s important to be vigilant for any symptoms of a failing
EGR valve.
One potential sign that there is a problem with your vehicle’s EGR
valve is a rough idle. This means that the valves have become stuck in
the open position due to the valve becoming fouled with carbon.
